Healthy Youth Programs

Since 1968, the Family Life Council has been dedicated to providing quality, research-based programs on youth development. These programs seek to enhance the quality of life for youth in our community.

Current research illustrates the need for healthy youth programs in our community. An example of a few statistics to support this need are:

  • Statistics show that one in three teenagers has experienced violence in a dating relationship. Dating violence crosses all economic, racial and social lines, most victims are young women who are also at higher risk for serious injury. (Bureau of Justice Special Report: Intimate Partner Violence, May 2000)
  • Each year in United States, 800,000 to 900,000 adolescents 19 years of age or younger become pregnant. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), "National and State-Specific Pregnancy Rates among Adolescents-United States, 1995-1997," Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, July 14, 2000, vol. 49, no. 27, p. 605.)

The Family Life Council recognizes that knowledge is power. Armed with information about healthy relationships, today’s youth can be empowered to make positive decisions for themselves.
