Parenting for Latino Families

Parenting can be a challenging undertaking.  Our program offers the Latino community an opportunity to add parenting techniques that can offer more options in the rearing and disciplining of their children.  These skills can serve as an aid while families become acclimated to an environment with which they may be unfamiliar.  Additionally, our programs are presented in a culturally sensitive manner and in Spanish thus enabling families to feel more comfortable as they participate and share their concerns and expectations with our educators and fellow parents.

We focus on the parent-teacher relationship that establishes a support team for their children and encourages parents to become involved in their child’s education beginning at the pre-school level.  Techniques for positive disciplining are explored that help children to accept responsibility for their actions and helps them recognize that consequences are an inseparable part of that behavior.  The use of this method helps parents to make their disciplining techniques a teaching tool and not just a reward and punishment activity.  We help parents to foster the joy of reading in their children by showing them methods that encourage reading in a non-compulsory manner and by demonstrating the great variety of age and ability-appropriate books that are available to borrow or to purchase.
