Student athletes have the challenge of balancing academics, athletics, social and family lives, and often much more. This teen pregnancy and STI prevention program for male athletes helps develop positive attitudes, knowledge, leadership, and healthy decision making skills.
The benefits include: better athletes, better students, fewer teen fathers, and healthier men.
Upon completion, many graduates have become advocates for the program’s positive messages with their peers and younger males as well.
Initiated at Shelby High School by the Cleveland County Health Department, this program has been successfully replicated in several cities in North Carolina and may be replicated in other parts of the country.
Professional trainings for coaches, athletic directors, and other school personnel are available.
